Visitor Tips
- Please do not touch the artworks, frames, pedestals, display cases, or anything that is used to protect the artwork. Any artworks that are interactive will be indicated by signage.
- Food and drink, flash photography, and the use of pens and markers are prohibited in the galleries; please use pencils only.
- Complimentary museum guides are available at the information desk.
- Strollers are welcome in our galleries.
- A tip sheet for visiting with children is available for download here.
- Only small bags are permitted in the galleries. Luggage, backpacks, or oversized bags must be stored in the coatroom; lockers are available free of charge. Umbrellas may be stored in the umbrella rack.
- Pets are not permitted. Service animals are welcome, and must follow ADA guidelines to remain under the handler’s control at all times.
Visitor Policies
Pulitzer Arts Foundation is committed to working together to create a safe experience for our visitors, artists, and team. To ensure the safety of our community, we have a zero-tolerance policy for verbal or physical harassment, discriminatory or threatening behavior, or any interference with the experience of others. We reserve the right to require that any person acting unacceptably or inappropriately leave the premises.
The visitor policies are comprehensive rules that ensure the safety and enjoyment of all visitors, staff, and the preservation of artworks. By entering the Museum, you agree to abide by following policies:
General Conduct
- Visitors must not engage in behavior that endangers others, harasses, or disrupts the experience of others.
- Visitors are asked not to photograph museum staff without their consent.
Prohibited Conduct
- Any behavior that poses a risk to others or museum property.
- Leafleting, signature gathering, picketing, and other similar activities are not allowed.
- Unauthorized performances, music, or use of sound amplification devices are prohibited.
- For-profit activities or solicitation of business are not allowed.
- Running, rough play, and disruptive behaviors are prohibited.
- Smoking, including electronic cigarettes, is prohibited anywhere on museum property including the terraces and outdoor areas.
Prohibited Items
- Weapons, firearms, tools, or any dual-use items.
- Large objects like flag poles, banners, or artworks.
- Photography equipment like selfie sticks, tripods, or professional video equipment.
- Flash photography.
- Marking materials, such as pens, paint, or adhesives.
- Hazardous materials, including toxic chemicals, flammable liquids, or explosives.
- Illegal items or substances.
- Recreational equipment like bicycles, scooters, skateboards, or rollerblades.
- Plants and any other item deemed risky by the museum.
These policies ensure that the museum remains a safe, respectful, and enjoyable environment for everyone.
Photography and Videography
Non-Commercial
The Pulitzer Arts Foundation welcomes visitors to take photographs of its museum and outdoor campus for personal use. Inside the museum, no flash, additional equipment, or commercial photography is permitted. Photography and video recording may be restricted near works of art or during some events. The Pulitzer does not permit photography or videography that may be disruptive to other visitors. Drones are not permitted. The Pulitzer assumes no responsibility for any royalties or fees claimed against the applicant or the Pulitzer by third parties.
Commercial
Commercial photography and videography is prohibited without the permission of the Pulitzer. This includes recordings intended to promote a product, service, company, or cause. Requests may be permitted in outdoor spaces—Park-Like, the Spring Church, and other areas—with prior approval. All photography or filming of a non-personal nature (i.e. editorial, commercial, advertisement) must be approved by the Pulitzer one week (seven days) prior to shooting. The Pulitzer reserves the right to deny photography or videography. The Pulitzer reserves the right to approve final content for any publication in any form in which images of the Pulitzer Arts Foundation will appear. Photographers and videographers are responsible for determining and obtaining any rights you may need related to your commercial use directly from the copyright owner. The Pulitzer does not permit photography or videography that may be disruptive to other visitors. Drones are not permitted.
