To complete one of the works in The Light Project, Pulitzer Arts Foundation asked the people of St. Louis to donate their old lamps, lamp shades, lanterns, and light fixtures. Through this community involvement, the artists Sebastian Hungerer and Rainer Kehres created an outdoor installation; the lamps found a new life in helping to recreate the roof of the historic Spring Street church in Grand Center, which burned in 2001. As the community enthusiastically embraced the project, a website was created to document and archive the stories behind each donated lamp, including photographs and a behind-the-scenes look at the collection process.
