This series presents readings by a range of emerging and established writers from St. Louis and across the United States. 100 Boots is organized by Ted Mathys, poet and educator at St. Louis University. The name, 100 Boots, takes inspiration from conceptual and performance artist Eleanor Antin’s series of photo-postcards documenting the staged travels of 100 pairs of black rubber boots across the United States in the early 1970s, suggesting a democratic notion of assembly and community. Similarly, the series serves a growing community which assembles to support writers and the creative community. At each reading, a selection of the authors’ books are for sale courtesy of Left Bank Books.
