Led by Tara Tee, a St. Louis-based activist and human rights advocate, this conversation examines the displacement of Black bodies in the St. Louis region as a result of systemic racism. Prompted by the universal themes of place, belonging, and impermanence in Mona Hatoum: Terra Infirma, this interactive storytelling session explores the history of some of the region’s most influential neighborhoods and the ways in which oppression and the colonization of land and culture has caused instability. From St. Louis Place to Wildwood, neighborhood boundaries across the St. Louis region have been reworked and rewritten at the expense of these communities. Those who have experienced disenfranchisement and displacement are invited to share their stories at the event to create an interactive storyboard map.
