Acompaña a la guía Karla en un tour sobre la obra de Faye HeavyShield liderado en español. Durante el tour los visitantes tendrán la oportunidad de reflexionar sobre la relación entre arte y ecología, y a la vez podrán compartir anécdotas y recuerdos familiares con otros miembros de la comunidad hispana en St. Louis. El encuentro terminará con una recreación interactiva del proceso de diseño de la pieza aiyo niitahtaan, en la que los participantes expondrán sus reacciones e impresiones sobre las esculturas y dibujos de la artista. ¿Entiendes el español, pero temes hablarlo en voz alta? ¡No te preocupes! Bilinguismo y code-switching hará parte también de la tarde. Este será un lugar seguro y ameno que busca celebrar la experiencia colectiva de disfrutar el arte en distintos idiomas.
The Pulitzer in Spanish!
Join educator Karla for a tour of Faye HeavyShield’s work led in Spanish. During the tour, visitors will have the opportunity to reflect on the relationship between art and ecology while sharing anecdotes and family memories with other members of the Hispanic community in St. Louis. The encounter will end with an interactive recreation of the design process of the piece aiyo niitahtaan, in which participants will share their reactions and impressions of the artist’s sculptures and drawings. Do you understand Spanish but feel hesitant to speak it out loud? Don’t worry! Bilingualism and code-switching will also be part of the afternoon. This will be a safe and enjoyable space that seeks to celebrate the collective experience of enjoying art in different languages.

My name is Karla (she, her, ella) I am a Hispanic Studies PhD student at WashU. I was the Museum Education Intern 2022 at the Kemper Museum, and I am currently the curator of the Millstone Gallery at COCA. I am passionate about creating intimate encounters with cultural pieces where each visitor feels their identity and experiences are enough to understand art.
