Explore materials and sound! Inspired by artist Terry Adkins, both a sculptor and musician, this Art Recess uses found materials to make sound sculptures. This is an open-ended project that promotes curiosity by using the sound of everyday objects—from keys to spoons.
Before you start, get inspired by Terry Adkins’s artwork. Adkins would gather objects other people might see as scraps or trash and find a new use for them in his sculptures. He would even use some of them in performances.
What materials are you drawn to? Are they old or new? Where have they been? What were they used for? What sounds or vibrations do they make? How do the materials relate to where you live or to a particular person?
Adventure, collect, and experiment!
Special thanks to Refab for providing the materials used for this project.
