This program marked the Pulitzer’s first collaboration with the St. Louis Public Library. In celebration of Banned Book Month, the Library provided banned or challenged books to be incorporated into stylus – a project by ann hamilton. These books rotated throughout the exhibition as librarians read their favorite texts aloud, adding spoken words to the sound design of the installation. Among those books which have been famously contested throughout history, librarians read excerpts from Howl by Allen Ginsberg, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou, and Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein. Through this collaboration and others, the St. Louis Public Library became a key partner in the stylus community program.
