The Pulitzer organized an informal symposium related to the exhibition Portrait/Homage/Embodiment, which included graduate students and their professors in the departments of art and art history from five universities: Harvard, Ohio State, Princeton, Stanford, and Washington University in St. Louis. The format of the event consisted of individual presentations—or, in some cases, performances—followed by group discussions. The program of the event was determined by the students in consultation with the moderators.
