During the Grand Center Gallery Walk, from 5-9pm, the Pulitzer opens phase two of the Flavin exhibition, when lamps on certain works will be switched, creating completely different works of art with new colors.
Dan Flavin sometimes changed the colors of an installation during an exhibition. By following this precedent, phase two of Dan Flavin: Constructed Light makes it possible for viewers to see a wider range of Flavin's lights and to compare the effects different colors have on particular structural formats, architectural situations, and personal experience. As differently colored installations are effectively different works, with their own titles and dates, the changes may also raise questions about the properties of Flavin's art.
Also featured is a video work by RD Zurick entitled "Movie Lights", which will be projected on the exterior of the Pulitzer building. The work consists of a montage of clips from popular movies featuring compositions of colorful lights, both superimposed gracefully and edited rhythmically as a tribute to the Flavin feel.
