Art/Food
June 5, 2010 1pm - 4pm

Celebrate the power that food and art has to bring people together as the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis and the Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts join forces for a special event.  Art/Food is presented in conjunction with the closing of Urban Alchemy: Gordon Matta-Clark at the Pulitzer and the opening of the Contemporary's Great Rivers Biennial

An amount of five dollars, or a donation of flour, oil, or vinegar, is suggested.  Proceeds and donated items will benefit St. Louis University Campus Kitchen, a non-profit student service program that uses donated food to prepare and deliver nourishing meals to those in need within the community.

Activities will include re-creating the famous gumbo recipe from Matta-Clark's Food restaurant and a pig roast, which Matta-Clark presented as a performance art piece under the Brooklyn Bridge in 1971. To accompany this, local chefs will prepare dishes that use local, fresh produce. We’re delighted to announce that the following chefs, from some of St. Louis’ premiere dining destinations, will participate: Aaron Teitelbaum, Herbie’s Vintage ‘72; Josh Galliano, Monarch Restaurant; Anthony Devoti, Five Bistro; and John Judy, L’Ecole Culinaire.

There will be opportunities to learn about eating local, seasonal and sustainable food. Members of the Garage Brewers Society will educate visitors on the process of brewing beer and will host a tasting of various home brews. Other educational activities include a station where visitors can make their own s’mores using a solar-powered oven provided by EarthWays Center.

This event is sponsored by Fitz's Root Beer and the Mountain Valley Water Company of St. Louis, and Slow Food St. Louis.
